Description
Migraine is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent headache attacks that may be accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. This project aims to design and develop a smart wearable headgear prototype that integrates three non-pharmacological approaches that may help relieve migraine symptoms: Peltier-based cooling, controlled pneumatic pressure, and motorized retractable light-shielding eyewear. The system will use a microcontroller, temperature and pressure sensors, wearing-detection sensors, and actuators to automate operation and regulate cooling and pressure through closed-loop control. A mobile application will allow users to configure cooling and pressure levels, enable or disable the light-shielding feature, set session duration, save preferences, and record usage sessions. The device will automatically initiate operation when correct wearing is detected and stop when the session ends, the device is removed, or a fault occurs. Safety mechanisms will include predefined temperature and pressure limits, controlled pressure release, and a manual eyewear release mechanism. The project will focus on hardware and software integration, control accuracy, power consumption, system reliability, and preliminary usability. The expected outcome is a functional engineering prototype demonstrating the feasibility of combining these functions in one wearable device. The system is intended to support migraine symptom management and is not intended to cure migraine or guarantee clinical effectiveness.
