Description

This multicenter retrospective cohort study evaluated secondary arteriovenous fistula (AVF) failure among hemodialysis patients in the Northern West Bank, Palestine. Data were collected from medical records of 244 adult patients who underwent first-time AVF creation between 2016 and 2023 across five dialysis centers. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and dialysis-related variables were analyzed to identify predictors of AVF failure over a two-year follow-up period. Secondary AVF failure occurred in 15.2% of patients. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, fewer dialysis hours per month was the only independent predictor of AVF failure. Increasing dialysis exposure may therefore help improve AVF patency and reduce the risk of failure.
