I specialise in theoretical and mathematical physics relevant for high energy particle physics and gravitation, including string theory.
Description
This project should be appropriate for an advanced undergraduate (with command of lagrangian mechanics and special relativity, and ideally of basic quantum mechanics as well). In this project we will walk through the basics of classical field theory (including e.g. Noether's theorems) as well as through Dirac's constrained hamiltonian mechanics. This will include applications to systems relevant in particle physics, such as relativistic and spinning particle mechanics, as well as worldsheet/"1st quantised" string theory. Depending on time and student interests, we can also discuss symplectic geometry, quantisation of such systems, and more.
