Bio
A (full) professor of mathematics education. My research focuses on multisemiotic modes of representations and communication in (Arabic) mathematics discourse mainly on language and its relation to the social aspects. I’m also interested in the sociopolitical and racial roles of mathematics and mathematicians. My recent book is “Learning and Teaching in Colonial Context: The Ethnography of Mathematics Education in Palestine” (2021, in Arabic).
Description
Temporary draft: The project aims to analyze Palestinian mathematics textbooks from a gender perspective. The quantitative component involves systematically examining the textbooks by counting the frequency of characters’ names, as well as identifying their social and scientific roles. The qualitative component focuses on the mathematical verbs (actions) used in the textbooks, with particular attention to the types of verbs associated with feminine forms compared to those associated with masculine forms.
